What will it take to improve children’s life chances?
The APPG on Poverty and Child Poverty Action Group are delighted to host this event introducing CPAG’s new publication, Improving children’s life chances.
The government has made a commitment to improve children’s life chances. But what do ‘life chances’ mean? And how are they affected by poverty and deprivation?
Leading experts from research, policy and practice will discuss the implications of the shift to ‘life chances’ as a frame for social policy, and explore measures to improve children’s life chances from perspectives including income, health, housing, and early years. Baroness Ruth Lister, Member of the APPG on Poverty and former director of CPAG, will chair the discussion.
Chair: Baroness Ruth Lister
Introduction by Alison Garnham, CEO of the Child Poverty Action Group
Panellists:
- Kitty Stewart, Associate Professor of Social Policy, LSE
- Eva Lloyd, Professor of Early Childhood, University of East London
- Angel Donkin, Deputy Director of the Institute of Health Equity
- Dr Sylvia Tijmstra, Policy Analyst at the Salvation Army
