The All Party Parliamentary Group on Poverty and the Living Wage Foundation invite you to the Houses of Parliament ‘Living Wage Marketplace’ event on Wednesday 2nd November from 15.00-16.30 in the Attlee Suite, Portcullis House
The event is hosted by the APPG on Poverty in partnership with the Living Wage Foundation and Citizens UK during annual Living Wage Week (31st October to 5th November). The Marketplace celebrates the diverse group of Living Wage employers who are paying a real Living Wage based on the cost of living.
There will be a fantastic array of Living Wage products to sample at the ‘Marketplace’ – ranging from foods, beer, spirits, teas, gifts, clothes, jewellery and even Living Wage haircuts!
There will also be speeches from;
- Robert Halfon MP, Minister for Apprentices and Skills
- Jack Dromey MP, Shadow Minister for Labour
- Kevin Hollinrake MP, Chair of APPG on Poverty
- Neil Gray MP, SNP Spokesperson for Fair Work and Employment
This year marks 15 years of the Living Wage Campaign and the five year anniversary of the Living Wage employer mark. The APPG on Poverty would like to mark the success of the campaign in consistently raising the issue of low pay in the UK and championing the real Living Wage, independently calculated based on what employees and their families need to get by.
The Living Wage Foundation celebrates the leadership of responsible employers who voluntarily pay all directly employed and onsite sub-contracted staff a Living Wage based on the cost of living. There are over 2800 employers signed up meaning which has lifted the pay of over 110, 000 employees.
The new London and UK Living Wage rates for 2016 will be announced on Monday 31st October at 9.30am.
Last year’s Living Wage Marketplace was a great success with parliamentarians and we look forward to many MPs and peers joining us again this year.
Please enter the Houses of Parliament via the Portcullis House visitors entrance. You may be asked for ID. Information about visiting Parliament can be found here.
