This meeting is a closed session for MPs and peers to formally elect officers and to meet the new co-secretariat of the APPG on Poverty; Child Poverty Action Group and The Equality Trust.
The APPG plans to take forward its work on the Poverty Premium in the year ahead, to see what Government, business and civil society can do to ensure those on low incomes do not face unfair extra costs. In particular, we would like to discuss how the APPG should proceed with a short inquiry into the Poverty Premium, inviting in expert testimony, and producing a report with recommendations for progress for the coming year.
Several important issues are connected to the Poverty Premium; personal finance, school uniforms, energy pricing and funeral costs. We invite MPs and peers to join us on 11 October to set the agenda for the APPG’s forthcoming work programme.
